- [Course XFIR-5021: Fire Officer I - Hybrid On-Line/Face-to-Face Format](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1017955): This course will be delivered in a hybrid format, meeting Tuesdays, Thursdays and on Saturdays.  The course will meet virtually on a few Tuesdays and Thursdays but, for a majority of the dates, the course will be held in person.  This course is designed to prepare firefighters for the role of Fire Officer I in accordance with NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. Participants will develop foundational leadership and management skills necessary for supervising personnel and managing resources within a fire service organization. Topics include organizational structure, human resource management, fireground operations, safety, and emergency scene leadership. Successful completion of this course meets the educational requirements for Fire Officer I certification. Students are required to attend all class sessions. - [Course XFIR-5027: Fire Safety Inspector Course](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1018232): The Fire Safety Inspector Course prepares firefighters and fire service professionals to perform fire and life safety inspections in accordance with NFPA 1031 standards and Ohio Fire Code requirements. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct inspections of existing occupancies, identify fire hazards, evaluate code compliance, document inspection findings, and support fire prevention and code enforcement activities. Topics include fire inspection practices, fire protection systems, occupancy classifications, hazard recognition, code interpretation, inspection reporting, and legal considerations of code enforcement. Successful completion of the course prepares students for Fire Safety Inspector certification and enhances their ability to promote community risk reduction through effective fire prevention and inspection programs. After installing and wiring an Allen-Bradley SLC500 series with 5/04 processor PLC, the student will use RSLogix500 software to create a ladder logic program to control a small dual conveyor system. Using RSLogix500 software and Allen Bradley PLCs, the student will program digital and analog PLC inputs to control digital and analog PLC outputs. Binary Coded Decimal (BCD), thermocouples, sequencers, bit shifting and PID loops will also be presented. CDL@starkstate.edu This class provides necessary training by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. Successful completion of this course will result in the entry of the individual’s name and license number in the federal Training Provider Registry. It does NOT confer a HAZMAT CDL endorsement. Successful completion includes a comprehensive, 20-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher.  To obtain a HAZMAT CDL endorsement, an individual must be age 21 or over, complete a  Transportation Security Association (TSA) background check  and pass written tests as administered by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Our CDL training will provide a minimum of 160 hours of Class A Tractor Trailer training consistent with the instruction required by Ohio administrative code 4501-7-11 and the Federal Entry-Level Drive Training rule.  Our CDL classes include a minimum of 40 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours behind-the-wheel conducted at the Stark State College CDL Training Center , 2270 Picton Parkway, Akron, OH 44312. Classroom includes CDL permit instruction (including preparation for tanker, HazMat and doubles and triples endorsements) and Entry Level Driver Training.  Behind-the-wheel training covers safe driver training such as pre-trip inspection, shifting, backing maneuvers and on-road driving. - [Course XFIR-5017: Firefighter Physical Assessment Test](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1022371): A physical assessment test to determine whether a job applicant has the requisite capabilities to perform the essential job functions of a firefighter. Stark State College requires that all of the tasks must be completed in a maximum of 7 minutes. The firefighter’s agility testing will be conducted outdoors. Applicants will be required to wear 5 lb. ankle weights to simulate the weight of firefighter turn out gear. An air tank will be worn during testing for weight only. Applicants MUST furnish their own gloves (mechanic, extrication, or leather gloves that provide good dexterity are appropriate). A firefighter helmet must be worn. Applicants can furnish their own helmet or a helmet will be provided. Applicants can bring their own liner, if they prefer. A ball cap or skull cap will work. It is suggested that applicants wear physical training clothing to include long pants and athletic shoes with good traction. Firefighting is physically demanding and at times extremely hazardous, therefore, candidates are encouraged to do pre-testing exercises that will assist them in completing the agility test. PLEASE NOTE: Stark State College does not assume any responsibility for any medical consequences that might arise from participating in physical agility testing.  - Check with each agency you are applying for to find out their established times for the physical assessment requirement. -A certificate of completion is issued indicating the student’s time to complete the test.  -ALL students SHALL be in attendance promptly at 8:30 am. LATE ARRIVALS WILL NOT BE TESTED. - A Photo ID must be presented upon sign-in. An Ohio Driver’s License or State Identification Card is acceptable . A copy of the identification will be made to accompany the applicant’s testing information. - Participants must read and sign a waiver of liability.  Participants must be in excellent physical health. - [Course XFIR-5037: Paramedic Refresher/Transition](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1024172): The Paramedic Refresher course provides theory and practical skills training and review at the paramedic level and follows the objectives as listed in the Ohio Administrative Code. This course provides for regular evaluation of student performance and achievement through written and practical testing. This course may be used for any of the following: Prerequisite for completion of National Registry Testing Continuing education for NR or state of Ohio Transition course to maintain NR certification This course will consist of 48 hours (12 hours pediatrics, 8 hours trauma, 9 hours medical emergencies, 1 hour dementia care, 4 hours geriatrics, 6 hours cardiology, 4 hours airway/ventilation, 2 hours EMS operations and 2 hours obstetrics/gynecology). These hours will be obtained in 8 hours of lecture class, 4 hours of skill refreshment and the remainder covered in homework. - [Course XDEN-5005: Dental Sealants for the Certified Dental Assistant](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1026851): This course meets the guidelines outlined in the statutes of the Ohio Dental Practice Act for sealant application by certified dental assistants in Ohio. You will receive two hours of didactic instruction (which will focus on terminology, anatomy, exposure control, dental materials and placement procedures) followed by six clinical hours of demonstration, practice, and clinical competency of sealant placement. During the six (6) hour lab practice session, students will practice and demonstrate appropriate sealant application techniques on anatomical models, typodonts.  Both written exam and clinical competency must meet a minimum of 75%. Appropriate certification by DANB or the Ohio Commission on Dental Assisting is required. After the registration ends, a Welcome/Information packet will be emailed to the email you provided at registration.  This packet will outline course outcomes and expectations. - [Course XDEN-5007: Medical Emergencies for Dental Professionals](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1026886): This 4-hour live virtual course provides information on the recognition of common medical emergencies and emergency protocol including prevention, management, and response in a dental office setting. You will learn to identify potential risks for emergencies reported in patient medical and dental histories. We will discuss recognition of symptoms, first aid treatment, and possible outcomes for patients in emergency situations. - [Course XDEN-5017: Oral Health Access Provider Training](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1026915): This 8-hour course will be live over Zoom and will prepare dental hygienists to properly and safely practice dental hygiene under the Oral Health Access Supervision Program (OHASP). We will cover the basic concepts that allow a dental hygienist to provide dental hygiene services to patients when the oral health access supervising dentist is not present. The course will cover topics such as treatment of geriatric, medically compromised, developmentally disabled, and pediatric patients; common oral conditions; medical considerations; medications; behavioral management; recognition of abuse; recognition of what constitutes a medically significant change to a patient’s medical or dental history; infection control; and ethical and legal considerations. As required by 4715.372(B)(2)(b) of the Revised Code, the course will include all recordkeeping practices outlined in board rule 4715-9-01, and those pertaining to the OHASP as stated in 4715.361 to 4715.375 of the Revised Code and will be inclusive of all forms required by the board in association with the OHASP. - [Course XDEN-5003: Coronal Polishing for the Certified Dental Assistant](https://workforce.starkstate.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1027350):   **In order to register for this course, students MUST have a physical copy of a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certificate from the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB), the Commission on Ohio Dental Assistant Certification (CODA) or a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certificate from American Medical Technologist.**   This 7-hour didactic and hands-on course teaches basic anatomy, exposure control procedures, ergonomics, techniques, and indications and contraindications for coronal polishing. Students will complete a 3-hour face-to-face lecture where you will learn the basic concepts that will prepare you for the 4-hour clinical practice session. You will practice and demonstrate appropriate coronal polishing techniques on anatomical models to prepare for student/partner practice (liability form must be received prior to clinical participation).  Both written exam and clinical competency must meet a minimum of 75%. Appropriate certification by DANB or the Ohio Commission on Dental Assisting is required.  After the registration closes, a Welcome Packet will be emailed to the email you provided when you registered for the class, to outline course outcomes and expectations. This course includes NFPA 1041, Chapters 7 and 8 competencies, knowledge, and skills including detailed preparation and inspection of participant PPE and SCBA, fire growth predication in a compartment, fuel load configurations, personnel accountability, and monitoring live fire participants. This course also includes an in-depth analysis of NFPA 1403, addressing live fire evolutions at acquired structures, gas-fired training buildings, non-gas-fired training buildings, exterior props, vehicle fires and exterior class B fires. The course is broken up into three parts, which contain extensive classroom activities, including scenario-based learning, group problem-solving/planning, and lecture, culminating in a written examination. The second and third parts of the training include a live-fire training practical where students can put into practice the knowledge learned during the classroom portion of the course.
